Nothing is less real than realism.
Logic is in the eye of the logician.
I love the quote from Georgia O'Keeffe- my all time favorite artist. Details are confusing. It's in the simplification of form, the erasing of detail, that art becomes a personal and unique communication. Otherwise all you have is a photograph or a copy of one. There's nothing logical about art- there is no correct answer. The answer lies in celebrating that art has one single, unique viewpoint in the world. Hopefully that view resonates with other viewpoints. I like to pare down and simplify my work, because to me, life is complicated and I believe we all need simplicity to balance that. That is how I view things- pretty simply and without all the messy details.
I've been painting my whole life and hold degrees in studio art and interior design. I started showing my paintings locally in juried shows, then began selling my work online. I do get really excited about decor and interiors, and found that my passion was working in two dimensions as a painter. Working on canvas or paper is a process for me- it's never about the finished product. When I start a painting I have a basic idea of what I want, but the beauty to me, is in the process of putting it all together to my satisfaction. And it often ends up different than the original idea- the painting can have a mind of its own!
I spend quite a bit of time at our beach house, continually inspired by the sea and surrounds, and you'll find that reflected throughout my work. I hope to start showing directly from my new art studio soon. Thank you for stopping by! Contact me anytime via my contact page here on my website.
